A global real estate provider has recruited an apprentice to work at Coventry Building Society Arena as part of its partnership.
CBRE agreed a three-year deal in July with the leading venue for sport, business and entertainment to oversee its facilities management and maintenance services.
The world-wide business is one of the leading providers of facilities management in the UK and has experience working in complex, multi-use and commercial-led environments.
Maryam Aziz has joined CBRE as a Level 3 technical apprentice and is based at Coventry Building Society Arena where she is already working across the venue under the supervision of Stuart Liggins.
The 19-year-old has completed a Level 3 Mechatronics course at James Watt College in Birmingham and has enrolled at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) at Ansty for her one-day a week college work.
Scott Price, Area General Manager for CBRE, said this was a great opportunity for Maryam to gain valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment.
“We take on 100 apprentices in our business every year and this apprenticeship underlines our commitment to our partnership at Coventry Building Society Arena,” he said.
“Maryam spent the first year of her apprenticeship at the ICC-Birmingham and she has moved over to Coventry Building Society Arena to have more exposure to the different aspects of her role.
“We look after the electrical and mechanical installations, plant room checks and Planned Preventative Maintenance, compliance checks for water, electricity, generators and all infrastructure at Coventry Building Society Arena.
“Maryam is shadowing Stuart Liggins, who has been an electrical engineer on site ten years, so she’s getting hands-on experience in all areas.
“She worked recently during a football match which was a first for her and that’s one of the great parts of her serving her apprenticeship at Coventry Building Society Arena because there are so many different aspects to the venue.
“Maryam is really embracing the role and has fitted in really well with our team.”
Paul Michael, Managing Director of Coventry Building Society Arena, added: “This is a great example of our partnership with CBRE delivering real value not just for Coventry Building Society Arena, but also by investing in young people.
“Bringing apprentices like Miryam into a live venue environment gives them invaluable experience while helping businesses like ours develop the next generation of technical talent.”
