Arena signs agreement with E.ON UK to enhance its operational efficiency AND reduce the carbon footprint of systems

Coventry Building Society Arena has signed an agreement with E.ON UK to enhance its operational efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of systems on its lower levels.

Through its market-leading Building Management System (BMS) business, E.ON Control Solutions, the energy company will be introducing a new BMS for the Arena’s Commonwealth Convention Centre and Grosvenor Casino.

It is the latest step in the growing partnership between the Arena and E.ON, which is focused on driving the venue’s continued decarbonisation.

The Convention Centre and Casino are in the lower halls of the venue and the BMS agreement will see a new integrated solution installed to manage systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and more.

Based upon industry standards, a well-designed and maintained BMS can reduce energy usage and costs by around 30%. When installed, the new system will cover more than 6,000 sqm of the venue and overall, the Arena is set to benefit from enhanced energy efficiency, reduced costs and improvements in its environmental footprint.

The Commonwealth Convention Centre comprises more than 1,700 sqm of flexible event space for conferences, exhibitions and meetings - including a purpose-built auditorium for 650 delegates.

Matt Brown, Managing Director and CFO of E.ON Control Solutions, said: “Improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions for a community building like an arena is no small endeavour. As the Coventry Building Society Arena’s sustainability partner, we’re proud to be accelerating its transition to new energy – where installing the new improved building energy management system is an important step on its decarbonisation journey.”

Coventry Building Society Aena and E.ON announced their sustainability partnership earlier this year. This signalled the next stage in a venue-wide sustainability action plan for the Arena, which is working with the energy solutions provider to develop, enhance and deliver over the next three years.

Paul Michael, Managing Director at Coventry Building Society Arena, said: “Improving our BMS systems is a key step in ensuring the venue is operating as sustainably and efficiently as possible.

“By giving us smarter control over essential systems in the venue, from lighting and ventilation to heating and air conditioning, we will be able to make strategic decisions to reduce energy consumption and deliver on our long-term sustainability targets.

“This latest development builds on our already strong and growing partnership with E.ON, working together to shape a greener future for the Arena.”
