An estimated prize pool of £2 million will be on the table when the UK’s largest poker tournament returns to Coventry.

Goliath is the largest live poker tournament outside of Las Vegas and will be hosted at the Grosvenor Casino at Coventry Building Society Arena from Thursday 24 July to Sunday 3 August.

It has been held annually since 2011 and brings together thousands of poker players from across the UK and Europe, regularly seeing more than 10,000 entries – with last year’s Main Event welcoming a record-breaking 11,749 entries.

The poker festival includes 25 unique events and cash games running over 11-days, with tournament buy-ins from £100 to £3,000.

The action starts with the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Main Event, with a buy-in of £1100+£150 which will be running Thursday 24 July to Monday 28 July and boasts a £1 million guaranteed prize pool. Other events across the schedule are sponsored by major names in poker such as PokerNews, Redtooth Poker, Cardroom Direct and Main Event Travel.

The Goliath Main Event, with a buy in of £200 (£160+£40), will get underway at the Grosvenor Casino from Saturday 26 July.

The main event attracts all level of players, from amateurs to seasoned professionals, and the 2024 event saw amateur poker player Will Watkins, from Milton Keynes, come out on top and take home a prize in excess of £166,000.

Before making it to the event in Coventry, online qualifiers are held on Pokerstars.com, making qualification possible from just $2.20. Pokerstars is also the main sponsor of the series.

The Goliath Champion will be crowned at Coventry Building Society Arena on Sunday 3 August.

Paul Davies, General Manager at Grosvenor Casino Coventry, said: ''Grosvenor is the heartbeat of UK poker, and Goliath is the pinnacle - bringing thousands of players to Coventry each year for an unforgettable poker experience like no other.”

Paul Michael, Managing Director at Coventry Building Society Arena, added that Goliath continues to be one of the annual highlights in the venue’s event calendar.

“Goliath is at the heart of our summer events programme and brings together the poker community for 11-days of action, social events and celebrations,” he said.

Poker attracts a diverse audience and thousands of people come to Coventry every year for Goliath, bringing a significant boost to the visitor economy over the summer months.”
