WASPS VS SAMOA
Date: 4 Jun 2015
WASPS VS SAMOA, SATURDAY 5 SEPTEMBER
In the week that Wasps travel to Toulon for a European Quarter Final, the club has announced it will also host an international team at the Ricoh Arena next season, in addition to hosting Group B of the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s on 21 August and a potential European Champions Cup Semi Final this month, if Northampton Saints beat Clermont Auvergne on Saturday.
Samoa will be Wasps’ opponents on Saturday 5 September (kick-off 3pm) as part of warm-up preparations for Wasps’ 2015/16 Aviva Premiership campaign and Samoa’s Rugby World Cup campaign, in which they will play Scotland, South Africa, USA and Japan, in Pool B.
Nick Eastwood, Deputy Chairman of Wasps said: “Hosting Samoa at the Ricoh Arena on 5 September will be a fantastic occasion and one not to miss as a rugby supporter. The game will be included for supporters as part of the 2015/16 Season Ticket package, which goes on sale the week commencing Monday 13 April.
“We are proud of the facilities we have at the Ricoh Arena, which is a perfect venue to host an international side. It will be a terrific day out for all the family to enjoy and a chance for fans to watch some of the international players in action before World Cup fever grips the nation when Rugby World Cup kicks off on Friday 18 September 2015.”
Wasps’ Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “As players and coaches, you want to test yourself against the best. We have that chance this Sunday against European Champions Toulon and the Samoa game will be another great opportunity for the squad as part of our preparations for the new season.”
The 2015/16 Aviva Premiership will kick off on the weekend of 16/17/18 October, as RWC 2015 reaches the knock-out stages.
Wasps’ other pre-season friendlies and on sale information for Wasps v Samoa for non-Season Ticket Holders will be announced in due course.
Wasps have two remaining home games this season, against Exeter Chiefs on Sunday 26 April and the new Midlands derby against Leicester Tigers on Saturday 9 May in The Stinger, for which over 23,000 tickets have already been sold.
