WASPS & RICOH ARENA AGREE LANDMARK PARTNERSHIP WITH ERICSSON

Wasps and Ricoh Arena have agreed a seven-figure deal with a world-leading technology company to rejuvenate the venue’s digital capabilities for thousands of visitors.

The 10 year deal is with Ericsson - a world leader in communications technology, networking, services and a driving force behind the Networked Society – and will see the indoor 6,000 sqm exhibition hall renamed as the Ericsson Exhibition Hall as part of the agreement

The 6,000sqm venue regularly hosts sports fan villages, concerts for up to 12,000 people, sports events, tradeshows and exhibitions amongst other uses including being the home to Wasps Netball which has recently been unveiled.

Ericsson will improve the performance of both the indoor and stadium wi-fi coverage, as well as the stadium’s operations.

Ericsson’s LTE broadcast solutions will break down the barriers of mobile data so that thousands of visitors can receive specific, popular content at the same time – known as Small Cell as a Service. This also includes 3D analytical technologies such as Piero that are readily used by sports broadcasters.

The deal will also see Ericsson using its knowledge of people’s content consumption to develop tailored solutions for the Ricoh Arena’s needs, whether it’s reacting quickly to unexpected changes in demand during events or developing fault management processes.

This latest partnership comes off the back of a record 777 events taking place at the Ricoh Arena last year including concerts by Bruce Springsteen and Rihanna and the two-day MTV Crashes event.
