Coventry to host world sporting event

Coventry to host Rugby League World Cup match

Organisers of the Rugby League World Cup today announced the rescheduled dates, including a match in Coventry at the Coventry Building Society Arena, and confirmed tickets are now back on sale.

It’s exactly a year to the final showpiece weekend in Manchester bringing the biggest and best Rugby League World Cup in history to its thrilling climax. Tournament organisers have confirmed the full revised 61 match schedule for the event in 2022.

Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council, said, “After the understandable postponement of the Rugby League World Cup 2021 it’s great to announce the date in 2022 for the fixture between Australia and Scotland and that tickets are back on sale.

“This is another major event for our city following UK city of Culture, the Commonwealth Games next year, and International Children’s Games. 2022 is going to be another really exciting year with so much on offer.”

Coventry will be hosting the match between Australia and Scotland on Friday 21 October at the Coventry Building Society Arena, with a 7:30pm kick off.

Paul Michael, Commercial Director at Coventry Building Society Arena, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Rugby League World Cup to the Arena in October 2022. To be selected as a host fixture, and to bring people together to enjoy this historic sporting event is an absolute privilege.

“The city of Coventry has a long history of sporting excellence, and our venue is synonymous with sport. I am confident that October’s game will be one to remember!”

Five weeks of world-class sporting action begins at St James’ Park, Newcastle, on October 15 before Headingley Stadium, Leeds, opens the women’s tournament on 1 November and a double-header at the iconic Copper Box, London, kicks off the wheelchair event on 3 November.
